The Vanderbilt Young Scholars Medical Program allows exceptional high school students to experience what life is like in a large academic medical center. Participants are an elite group of rising 11th and 12th grade students who are proven leaders with strong character, intellectual curiosity, motivation, extracurricular talent, a passion for medicine and healthcare, and a diversity of backgrounds, interests, and life experiences.
YSMP is a 4 week hands-on experiential non-boarding program taught by Vanderbilt Medical Center faculty providing insight into an academic medical center. The program focuses on the M.D. Patient Care, M.D. Research, R.N. and Medical Technology fields.

While we may not be using them much now, if we were to actually go to Vanderbilt or have to write a paper or something the search engines we learned about would be very useful. I really liked the historical section of the library and seeing all the old books.
I agree with Jess. It can be hard to go in and appreciate the research aspect of medicine after such exciting days in the hospital...but I think it is really important for us to be reminded of that frequent, vital work required for such a career. So while today may have been less useful to us in terms of applying the new skills and knowledge, I think it definitely enlightened our scope of the medical role.
I really enjoyed the programs such as UptoDate and it's nice that so much of the Eskind Biomedical Library is available to students online from their dorms/houses/etc.
